- Distribution: Tilapia originated in Africa. It has been placed in Asia, Central America and South America to its cultivation.
- Feeding: It is an omnivore species that eats fitoplancton, perifiton, aquatic plants, small invertebrates, benthic fauna, wastes and bacterial caps linked to detritus.

- Breeding: Small lakes, ponds, cages and tanks.
- Reproduction: Courtship takes several hours. Fecunded eggs and embryos (until 15 days) are inside the femaleâ´s buccopharyngeal cavity (80.6ºF), so she stops eating. At high temperature, males are predominant over females. Consecutive hermaphoditism.
