In Europe in the Italian Adriatic Sea, Albania, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro. It´s been put up in Spain and Portugal.
It mainly eats alive food: aquatic insects larvae, ephemera larvae, snails, small fishes, pieces of shrimps and invertebrates.
This is a protected species.

Hermaphrodite proterandica, mature first as male, and from the second or third year of life reverts to female. The time of sunset usually covers October through December, carrying out several secondary sunsets during its implementation. Incubation lasts about 2 days 16 – 17 °C. The larval stage lasts about 50 days at 17.5 °C or 43 days at 20 °C.
